What is Cislunar?

Cislunar space refers to the region of space between Earth and the Moon, including the Moon’s orbit. It encompasses the area where spacecraft can operate between these two celestial bodies, often used in discussions about future space exploration, lunar missions, and potential infrastructure for space travel.

Seeing Cislunar Wrong The Whole Time

01

Trying to fit something this vast into a format that is not accounting for the 3D aspect

02

Cislunar is not just the space between the earth and the moon

03

How could we address those common misrepresentations?

Design Process

01

Approach

Met with APL's Space Comm team to devise a HL2 experience that would build a deeper relationship with the user viewing the Cislunar Space. Opted to integrate open-sourced data of 16 satellites from various countries and visualize their trajectories over 30 days. The goal was to establish a longer retaining idea/knowledge of what cislunar is beyond the traditional 2D powerpoint

02

CSV Data to Render

5 large exhibits, but lack of context with navigation causes people to skim/skip over significant artifacts.

03

Visualization

Many of the placards are written in English. This prevents those unable to speak English/those with limited schooling to miss out on key information.

04

Deploying to HL2

The average passerby doesn’t have the opportunity to be taken throughout the museum by a tour guide. Therefore, missing out on highly informative/engaging material that adds deeper context to the history and cultural artifacts.
